Dr. Sam Cullan has a unique position in the world of personal injury representation. Dr. Cullan is both a medical doctor and trial lawyer. As such he understands the intricacies of a personal injury, wrongful death, auto accident, nursing home negligence, or medical malpractice case. The senior partner in The Law Firm of Samuel K. Cullan, M.D., J.D. and Associates, Dr. Cullan handles serious injury cases across the country.
Dr. Cullan received a congressional appointment to attend college at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, where he graduated with honors in l976 with a major in Marine Engineering and a minor in Nuclear Engineering. He was appointed to the Honor Board and served as 4th company Executive Officer.
Young Senator Cullan
At the age of 22, Dr. Sam Cullan ran and was elected to public office. He served as a Senator in the Nebraska Legislature for two terms. Dr. Cullan was the youngest senator in Nebraska history to chair the Health and Welfare Committee. Dr. Cullan has always had an intense sense of duty and interest in service to others. He was the sponsor of legislation protecting the environment, natural resources, and public health. Dr. Cullan also took on the powerful tobacco lobby to pass legislation funding cancer research with cigarette taxes.
Law School and Medical School
Dr. Sam Cullan graduated cum laude from Creighton University School of Law in l982. He graduated from Creighton University Medical School in l987.
Dr. Cullan is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, and Nebraska. He devotes all of his time to practicing law and is not licensed to practice medicine.
Dr. Sam Cullan’s dedication to people and to hard work is not only reflected in his numerous pursuits but also in the manner in which he has achieved them. During law school, he was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society, Student Bar Association, Moot Court, Dean’s List, and was invited on to Creighton’s Law Review. During medical school, Dr. Cullan continued to work as an attorney. He was the President of his Senior Class and a recipient of the UpJohn Achievement Award presented by the Dean of the Medical School. He was also a member of the Legislative Commission of the Nebraska State Medical Association.
Dr. Cullan opened his own firm in 1990 with an emphasis on helping people who have sustained catastrophic injuries or wrongful death. Dr. Cullan is Board Certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also Board Certified in Legal Medicine by the American Board of Legal Medicine. Very few lawyers understand how to read and interpret Fetal Heart Monitor strips. Dr. Cullan is certified in Fetal Heart Monitoring by the National Education Center.*
Dr. Cullan has an intense passion for helping people of all ages who need someone to fight for them, but he has a special passion in helping injured children and the elderly. He has represented numerous children who have sustained brain injury or spinal cord injury as a result of serious car crashes, or birth injuries like cerebral palsy or brachial plexus as a result of medical malpractice. He is the Director of the Birth Trauma Litigation Section of the firm. He has represented many elderly people who could not find other lawyers to help them.
Dr. Sam Cullan is a frequently requested lecturer at numerous legal and medical continuing education seminars. He is invited to teach not only lawyers, but nurses, doctors, and hospital administrators. Recently he spoke to the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association regarding his Top Ten Verdict of $ 4,603,000 that was awarded in a birth trauma case.
Dr. Cullan is a member of a number of distinguished legal organizations including the American College of Legal Medicine, American Trial Lawyers Association, Arizona Bar Association, Arizona Trial Lawyers Association, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, Missouri Bar Association, Missouri Trial Lawyers Association, Nebraska Bar Association, and Maricopa County Bar Association.
